South Park, PA (August 18, 2008) It’s been a season of up’s and down’s for Keith Barbara and the Forbes Field Motorsports team. Unfortunately there seems to be more down’s than up’s. The 2008 season started with a blown motor on Opening Night at Pittsburgh’s PA Motor Speedway (PPMS) that put the team behind right off the bat. The team seemed to get on the right track in mid-June with a win at PPMS on June 17 followed by a $7,000 win at Central PA Speedway on July 3 but after a couple of top five finishes Keith failed to qualify for two World of Outlaws Late Model Series (WoO) sanctioned events, the first at Sharon Speedway and the other being the ‘Firecracker 100’ at Lernerville Speedway.
What was thought to be a low point was only the beginning of what was to come. After contact with another competitor sent Keith and his Comcast / Triangle Benefit Services / Potoka Trucking / Forbes Field Garage / Ran Group Racing Tours sponsored #17 Rocket Chassis GTO into the wall at Tyler County Speedway in Middlebourne, WV, it was necessary to send the car to Rocket Chassis in Shinnston, WV for repairs.
After taking a week off, the team put a brand new Domhoff Racing Engines power plant under the hood and headed to PPMS on Saturday, August 16 but overheating issues sent Barbara pit side with a 17th place finish during the first of two feature events. Damage created from the overheating kept Keith out of the second feature event.
‘If we didn’t have bad luck we wouldn’t have any,’ said the surprisingly upbeat driver. ‘We got the other motor coming back this week but we’re not sure what we’re going to do. The IRS (Independent Racing Series) is down at Cumberland, MD on Friday, we thought about that but we may not be ready in time. If we don’t get the motor back in time we may just take the weekend off and hit the MACS (Mid-Atlantic Championship Series) show at Lernerville on the 29th.’
Keith continued, ‘The Jim Shank Memorial on the 29th is a race we would really want to be a part of. Not only is Potoka Trucking & Repair presenting the event, Jim was a good friend of ours here at Forbes Field Motorsports. My dad (Rich) used to build Jason’s (Jim’s son) go-kart motors way back when and had been a friend of the family ever since. And of course Jason is a big supporter and sponsor of ours. It would be great to be on top of our game that night and bring home a win in honor of our friend.’
Barbara will be highlighted on Lernerville Speedway’s Pre-Race show, ‘Trackside’ on Friday, August 29th and is scheduled to appear on the show at approximately 6:15pm. The show can be heard on AM Radio 810 WEDO or it can be heard online at www.speedwayproductions.biz.
Keith and the Forbes Field Motorsports team are unsure of their upcoming schedule. Please check www.keithbarbara.net later in the week for their schedule.
