South Park, PA (August 29, 2007) Keith Barbara and Forbes Field Motorsports picked up their second win of the season this past Saturday at Pittsburgh’s PA Motor Speedway (PPMS) holding off Jared Miley and Lynn Geisler in a rain shortened event.
On Thursday, August 16th Keith found himself at Lernerville Speedway in Sarver , PA for a $3,000 to win, 30-lap special which included NASCAR stars Tony Stewart and Ken Schrader. Barbara set the third fastest time in qualifying which put him on the pole for the third heat race. Keith was joined on the front row by Tony Stewart in his own Bass Pro Shops Rocket Chassis. Barbara and Tony played a little game of cat and mouse on the start of the race as both were called false starts after two failed attempts at taking the green flag. The third try was a charm as Tony got the jump on the start. Unfortunately Keith fought a tight racecar throughout the heat race and finished fifth. Barbara only completed one lap in the main event as contact with another competitor forced Keith to the pits with a broken rear shock.
The team then made their way to PPMS on Saturday, August 25th hoping to pick up where they left off the last time they visited dirt’s monster half mile when they won the ‘Garin Memorial’. Keith started the feature event side-by-side with National Dirt Late Model Hall of Famer Lynn Geisler and quickly jumped out to the lead. Barbara led the event until the caution flew on lap 21. As the cars were lining up for the restart rain started to fall forcing track officials to cancel the rest of the event giving the win to Keith and crew. "If that caution didn't come out I'm not sure what would have happened,” mentioned Keith from his shop on Tuesday. “The control arm broke and I almsot lost it a few laps before the caution came out. I went into three and the car almost went into a four wheel spin. I held on as tight as I could and got it straightened out but I didn't know what happened. The track was super fast. On the start I had the car flat-footed for at least the first three laps. It was a good run, things are starting to turn around for us a bit after the bad luck we had earlier in the year. I just hope we can continue to run good for the big money shows coming up here as the season winds down."
Keith will head to Tyler County Speedway on Saturday, September 1st for the 39th Annual ‘Hillbilly 100’ sanctioned by the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series and paying $25,000 to the winner. Then to Cannonball Speedway in St. Clairsville , OH on Monday, September 3rd for a $5,000 to win Independent Racing Series sanctioned event.
