South Park, PA (May 14, 2007) Keith Barbara and Forbes Field Motorsports finally got to race at Hilltop Speedway last week for the Independent Racing Series’ (IRS) sanctioned ‘Deadline 50’. This past Friday the team tried a new setup at Lernerville Speedway for their regular show then headed south to Tyler County Speedway in Middlebourne, WV for the 13th Annual ‘Topless 50’ paying $4,000 to the winner.

After a weeklong delay Keith and crew made their way back to Hilltop Speedway to finish what they had started the previous Friday. Keith started in the 13th position in the $5,000 to win main event. Barbara was able to drive his Triangle Benefits Services/Potoka Trucking/Forbes Field Garage/RanGroup Racing Tours/Rocket Chassis GTO to a solid 8th place finish in the teams first A-Main at the facility. “The car was good we just missed a bit on tire selection,” said Keith. “Overall we are happy with what we got, but I feel we could have been better.”

The following Friday the team stopped at Lernerville Speedway to work on a different setup. “I’ve always been tight at Lernerville so we talked with Mark Bush from AFCO Shocks about a few things and we wanted to see what we could come up with,” mentioned Keith on his trip to Lernerville. The night started off with a good pill draw that put Keith on the pole for his heat race. Keith would win that heat in dominating fashion and put Keith in the re-draw for the feature. Unfortunately the re-draw put Keith in the 11th starting position for the A-Main. Keith was on the move in the feature racing his way into the top five before his left rear tire popped off the wheel forcing him to the pits and putting him 19th in the final rundown. “I was really happy with the setup we had under the car. We finally got it to free up a bit to get me into the corners better,” Keith said after the race. “To have a good car and have something like this (tire) happen leaves a sour taste in your mouth. We came here to try some new things but we also came to win, so there is certainly some disappointment.”

The following night Forbes Field Motorsports found themselves at one of Keith’s favorite places to race, Tyler County Speedway for the $4,000 to win, unsanctioned ‘Topless 50’. Barbara again had a tire come off of the wheel in qualifying putting the team behind the “eight-ball” all night. Keith was not able to transfer into the 50-lap feature event through his heat but did have a really strong run in the B-Main where he came from the back of the field to the third and final transfer position. That finish would put Keith in the 17th starting position for the night’s main event. Just like the night before, Keith was on the hammer and moving up through the field when the driveshaft broke sending Keith pit-side once again and relegating him to a 16th place finish. “Just doesn’t seem like we can get a break,” Keith said from his race shop in Pittsburgh. “Both nights we had a strong car but nothing to show for it. With the year we had last year and the way this year has started it’s getting to be a little frustrating. Eventually we are going to figure it out and put some wins on the board.”

The team’s plans for this weekend include another trip to Lernerville Speedway on Friday, May 18th for their regular “Fab Four” event. Keith also has tentative plans to run Marion Center Speedway in the Floyd Lockart owned Lias Tire/E&M Motors/Townsend Gas & Oil/Edge Racing Engines/Warrior Chassis #4 on Saturday May 19th.
